Geesje Kwak was a Dutch muse of George Hendrik Breitner (1857 - 1953) in the 1890s. Born in Zaandam in 1877, she moved to Amsterdam as a teen and began modeling for him around age 16. She appears in his Girl in a Kimono series, reflecting Europe’s fascination with Japanese art. Kwak later emigrated to South Africa, where she died of tuberculosis at 22.
